CHRIS HOPE
Senior Lecturer, Judge Business School,
and Director of Management Studies Tripos, University of Cambridge
Dr. Chris Hope, Senior Lecturer, Judge Business School, and Director of Management Studies Tripos, University of Cambridge was selected by the judging panel for his pioneering research on the major issue of climate change, as well as his institutional leadership and his commitment in advancing corporate responsibility research and learning.
Hope has committed his research and teaching over the last fifteen years to the critical synthesis of relevant information from science and economics of climate change in order to build models that help practitioners in their decision making, when confronted with the effects of global warming. He has been clearly a front runner in exploring what climate change would and will mean for society, but in particular for business. His most important work is in the continuous development of the PAGE (Policy Analysis of Greenhouse Effect) integrated assessment model. The results of his modelling work have been extensively used by policy makers and business people, and were used for the impact calculations in Sir Nicholas Stern's famous 2006 Review on the Economics of Climate Change in the UK .
His work has been recognized through publications in leading international journals in the field including over 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals as well as an acknowledged presence in the public policy sphere with:
The nomination by the UK government as a Lead Author for the influential Third and Fourth Assessment Reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in 1998 and 2005
The appointment as specialist advisor to the House of Lords Select Committee investigating climate change
Besides holding the lecturer post at Judge Business School , Chris Hope is also a Member of the editorial board of the journals Integrated Assessment , Transport Policy and Energy & Environment , Manager of the James Tye, British Safety Council Research Fellowship and an invited member of the OFGEM Environmental Economist panel.
